Pain and cracking in the mandibular joint, bite anomalies (disturbances in the occlusion of the teeth), gnashing of teeth during the night

The tendons and ligaments of the mandibular joint run vertically from the skull into the lower jaw. When the mouth is opened too wide, like f.e. when yawning or at the dentist or one has bitten on a too hard object, the mandibular joint subluxates, as the ligaments are overstretched, the part of the joint of the lower jaw is pressed downward and cants in its malposition, so that it cannot spontaneously glide back into its normal joint position again. Another muscle is involved in this occurrence, being fixed to the part of the joint of the lower jaw, running to the upper jaw (muscle pterygoideus lateralis). Subluxates the mandibular joint, this muscle tenses up and distorts the subluxated part of the joint of the lower jaw additionally.

The consequences of subluxations of the mandibular joint not only are a blockade of the 4th cervical vertebra, but also pain in the mandibular joint, bite anomalies (disturbances of the occlusion of the teeth), gnashing of teeth during the night and so on.

Four meridians run over the mandibular joint and can release or worsen the following diseases:

The gallbladder belongs to the functional circuit gallbladder (Th4 SMT®)/ liver (Th5 SMT®)/ eyes and tongue (C2), which is connected via the 2. cervical vertebra to the functional circuit heart (Th2 SMT®)/ small intestine (Th12 SMT®)/ tongue and eyes (C2). Subluxations of the gallbladder vertebra can have a negative influence on the function of the heart and lead to an irregularity of pulse.

The stomach is part of the functional circuit stomach (Th6 SMT®)/ spleen-pancreas (Th8 SMT® and Th7 SMT®)/ mouth and nose (C4), which is connected via the 4th cervical vertebra to the functional circuit lung (Th3 SMT®)/ large intestine (L1 SMT® and L2 SMT®)/ nose and mouth (C4). Sickness and stomach diseases up to gastric ulcers can arise due to subluxations of the mandibular joint.

The small intestine belongs to the functional circuit heart (Th2 SMT®)/ small intestine (Th12 SMT®)/ tongue and eyes (C2) and the triple heater to the functional circuit circulation-sexus (Th2 SMT®)/ triple heater (Th12 SMT®)/ tongue and eyes (C2). Both functional circuits are connected to the functional circuit gallbladder (Th4 SMT®)/ liver (Th5 SMT®)/ eyes and tongue (C2) via the 2nd cervical vertebra.
